Face painting and the Day of the Dead have become synonymous, but have you ever tried to paint your face? For most who do not wear make-up on a regular basis, painting a recognizable calavera image on your own face can be nearly impossible. The results are often poor representations of one’s original idea. For that reason, it is a good idea to have someone else paint your face. But who? The good people at European Body Art have teamed up with Nick Herrera, a legendary airbrush artist, to create the Nix Collection of Sugar Skull stencils.
These are laser-cut reusable airbrush stencils designed to help lay the framework of a stellar calavera face-painting in just minutes. As with any stencil, it is what you make of it. You can use these stencils with conventional brushes, but it will probably require three hands. Use one hand to position it on the face, use the paintee’s hand to help hold it flush against their flesh, and use your other hand to operator your paint application device. These stencils would be ideal for someone planning to run a face-painting booth during Day of the Dead 2013. By using a stencil to lay the framework, you will be able to spend more of your time personalizing and decorating each face, and less time trying to ensure everything is even and symmetrical.
