From the pen of NewInMexico

Great pictures in retrospect of this recent Dia de los Muertos.

So last Friday was the “día de muertos” here in Mexico. And people built little shrines in their houses for the deceased and also go to the cemetary and decorate the graves of their families there. Sometimes they also let a band play the deceased’s favourite song.

I visited the Panteon Municipal in Morelia (the principal cemetary in Morelia) and visited my family’s grave. It was great to see so many people … young and old …

People brought flowers and food, some even brooms and water buckets. Because before the decoration the graves have to be cleaned. And as everywhere in Mexico you will find some young men that do it for you … of course in exchange for some money. Interesting were also the Mariachi bands that played different songs in front of different graves.

Here are some impressions.
